May 2018 at the South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Society

South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Society has been busy providing support groups and other services to women and their families in Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Clinton, Spences Bridge, Walachin, and many First Nations bands. Please read on to find out what we were up to in May 2018.

Info Booths at Two Rivers Youth Summit & Make Children First Care Fair

SCEFS Staff were invited to set up information booths at the Two Rivers Youth Summit on May 8th & 9th at the HUB centre in Ashcroft, where Grade 6 – 11 students in School District 74 attended workshops. Our information booths were very well-attended by the youth.
SCEFS Staff were also at the Make Children First Care Fair at Desert Sands Community School on May 10th with an information booth. Thank you to all who came up to chat with us. Overall, it was a busy and successful week of public relations for our office in the community!

Programs

The Public Garden was planted with the help of Board members, staff and community volunteers. We now just have to try to fix our watering system, as many parts were damaged over the winter. The best way to water the plants right now is with the hose and nozzle.

Nobody’s Perfect Parenting program started up on May 25th with a great group and a waiting list! This program will be completed in the next two weeks, and is a great resource for parents and caregivers with children aged 0 - 5 who are seeking to strengthen positive parenting skills.

The week of May 14th the office was short-staffed, down to one person, as many of the staff went to training in North Vancouver. Watch for a new program coming in the fall!!

Upcoming June 2018 Events

June 6 & 20th - Food Bank Days

The Ashcroft and Area Food Bank provides food to those in need who reside in our agency’s catchment area (Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Clinton, Spences Bridge, and Walhachin).

June 7 & 21st – Coffee Hour Group

A social hour from 1pm to 2pm that is open to all to socialize or discuss issues they have in common.

June 4 & 18th – Ashcroft Indian Band Community Kitchen

Every second Monday, two staff persons from the SCEFS office go up to AIB to bring people together using food. “Cook Together, Eat Together, Laugh Together”

South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Society wholeheartedly thanks all of our community members who contribute to the ongoing success of our programs! To find out more about what SCEFS does in the communities, please check out our services and programs page. We look forward to seeing you in June and July!
