Police-Based Victim Services
Police-Based Victim Services is a program which provides information, support and referrals to all victims of crime.
Who is the Victim?
A victim is the individual, family or friend who has suffered or been adversely affected by crime or tragedy such as:
- Homicide
- Sexual assault
- Residential break-in
- Robbery/armed robbery
- Sudden death
- Suicide/attempted suicide
- MVA
- Family violence
Services:
- Emotional support and understating for the feelings and fears that arise from victimization
- Case information on your police file as it proceeds through the criminal justice system
- Referrals to other helping agencies
- Assistance with criminal injury compensation and restitution applications
- Assistance with court order information
- Assistance with Victim Impact Statements
- Liaison with police, courts and other agencies to help negotiate the system
